About Maddie Skidmore

Mission & Approach

I am passionate about supporting individuals with reaching their goals, overcoming obstacles and creating healthier relationships with themselves, others and the world around them. I firmly believe that individuals are a wellspring of strength, knowledge and important stories waiting to be told. In my practice trust, compassion and connection are the pillars of an effective, safe and enjoyable therapeutic process. I pride myself on my warm and empathetic demeanour and I have a profound interest in supporting those who wish to transform their mental health and wellbeing, particularly those who may be new or unfamiliar with therapy.

As a Registered Social Worker I bring a unique approach to counselling and therapy. Your mental health is impacted by all of the systems in your life including family systems, political systems, social systems and vocational systems. A social worker views each person as existing within their own unique context, and helps illuminate how this context may impact a person on a very deep level. My work is holistic in nature, and I utilise mindfulness skills to strengthen the connection between mind, body and spirit, while helping you stay grounded and present. My approach is integrative, which means that I cater my approach to the needs and goals of a client. I use evidence-based approaches, drawing from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and Narrative Therapy. I also have a comprehensive background in drama and theatre. For those clients that are open to it, I may draw from this experience to offer alternative approaches to self-expression and exploration.

During the process of therapy I will check in with you to assure that our work is continually effective, and ensure that you are getting the most out of our sessions together. My clients are experts on their own lives and experiences, and my practice is collaborative in nature which allows each person to remain as such. My goal is to develop long-lasting relationships with each client, everyone has a unique story and one that deserves to be heard.
